Senior Outreach and Engagement Officers: Constructing Knowledge of an Emerging Role
Advisor: Andrew Furco
As higher education institutions have evolved to meet the changes in their environment and the expectations of their constituents and external stakeholders, new campus roles have become common across institutional types. This study seeks to deepen understanding of a new leadership role that has emerged over the past two decades: the senior outreach and engagement officer. By investigating these roles and the individuals who occupy them, this study grounds itself in the field-building body of research in higher education community engagement that has documented its growth and development, professionalization, and conceptualization of leadership roles.

All are welcome.
The University of Minnesota campuses were built on the traditional homelands of the Dakota and Ojibwe, and scores of other Indigenous peoples who have walked on these lands from time immemorial. It is important to acknowledge the peoples on whose land we live, learn, and work as we seek to improve and strengthen our relations with our tribal nations. We also acknowledge that words are not enough. We must ensure that our institution provides support, resources, and programs that increase access to all aspects of higher education for our American Indian students, staff, faculty, and community members.
