Sustaining a Relationship-based Student Engagement Intervention: The Case of Check & Connect

Advisor: Karen Seashore

The purpose of this study is to examine and describe the factors leading to the sustainability of implementation of an evidence-based dropout prevention/student engagement intervention, Check & Connect, in a large midwestern, urban school district. Check & Connect has been implemented in the district for more than 30 years, and although there have been a number of internal and external evaluations of the intervention, none of them have looked at what factors have led to the continued implementation of Check & Connect in the district. This study will provide the district with information about Check & Connect implementation and it’s continued sustainability that will support not only the future of Check & Connect, but implementation of other long-term interventions designed to promote improved student outcomes for all students.
