Performative, Informative, Manipulative & Transformative Youth Voice: Youth-Led Social & Policy Change.

Advisor: Nicola Alexander

The purpose of this oral preliminary exam is to explore how youth organizations lead in policy and social change, while identifying the barriers and tensions youth experience with adult partners in formal policy-making spaces. This exploration is grounded in four theoretical perspectives of student voice: Performative; Informative; Manipulative; & Transformative Student Voice. This exam considers how adultism and intersectionality impact youth as well as youth resistance to institutional oppression.
