Profile

Early research projects concerned inclusive education services for students with disabilities, team-decision making in development of Individualized Education Programs, and post-school outcomes for students who had received special education and services. Current research interests include over-representation of African American and Latino students in special education, strategies for building cultural competence among teaching staff, and disproportionate representation of students of color in disciplinary action. Recent research contributions included evaluation of school nursing services and considering cost and revenue comparisons among single and cooperative school districts in the provision of special education. A theme in current work is fostering ethical leadership skills among aspiring leaders in education. New interests include exploring creative means of amplifying student voices in transformational work surrounding equity in public schools.
