Meg Fitzgerald-Sisk

Profile

My academic interests are in the fields of HRD, instructional design, and higher education, and my principal interest lies in exploring how faculty in higher education learn to teach. I come to the University of Minnesota with more than 20 years of work experience in HRD in the business world and in all levels of education (pre-school through graduate school). Because of this, I have had the unique opportunity to view teacher/instructor/trainer preparation at all levels and in diverse environments, from classic teacher preparation to alternative licensure to apprenticeship to on-the-job training to train-the-trainer education. My current research follows two distinct lines of inquiry:  first, exploring how faculty at all levels in higher education learn how to do their jobs, and second, exploring effective ways to construct classes in business and tertiary education.  

I teach in the undergraduate BME and HRD programs, primarily in the areas of project management and futuring. I emphasize interactive, experiential, and participatory learning in my classroom. I enjoy teaching, and view it as an opportunity to learn from students and to facilitate their growth. Learning is really at the center of what I do, whether that is interacting with my students in and out of the classroom, performing research, or speaking with my University colleagues.
