I have previously served in the roles of high school science teacher in the New York City public schools, teacher leader, assessment and data literacy specialist, and data reporting supervisor at the Minnesota Department of Education. I study the intersection of education policy and measurement - specifically the design, implementation, and effects of using metrics in accountability and assessment policy on student learning and equity in schools. My areas of interest include balanced assessment systems, culturally responsive data use, culturally responsive teaching, systems thinking, and standards, assessment, and accountability policies. My research also considers the influence of out-of-school resource and social structures, as well as school organizational conditions on classroom instruction and assessment practices. I have been awarded teaching fellowships by the NYC Teaching Fellows and Math for America. I received my Master's degree in Science Education from Lehman College, CUNY and a Bachelor's degree in Music Performance (clarinet) from DePaul University in Chicago, IL. I live in Minneapolis with my 9-year old daughter, Brooklyn.
