Biography

I am a professional working to create campus ecologies that support student equity, inclusion, and success. Currently, my research focuses on the effect of social class identity on college student career readiness and transition to the workplace. Other focus areas include the structuring of cross-divisional student success working teams, maximizing institutional data and assessment for student success, incorporating Indigenous worldviews into higher education practice,, and creating environments that center the student voice in institutional decision-making.

I have held national leadership roles with NASPA and NODA. At NASPA, I currently serve on the President’s Implementation Committee Indeginous Engagement, have served as the Orientation, Transition, and Retention Knowledge Community co-chair, and frequently present on student success topics. I have also served on the NODA national Board of Directors, as a founding faculty member for National Retention Symposiums, as editor of the NODA Databank, and as national chair of the Educational Initiatives Committee.

My work experience includes roles at private and public institutions, as well as small colleges, mid-size, research 1, and community colleges. I manage the Toaster Innovation Hub here on the UMN campus and previously taught OLPD career-focused courses. Before my doctoral work, I served as the Director of New Student and Family Programs and the Military Student Assistance Center at Eastern Illinois University for over fifteen years. In this role, I managed the direction and assessment of all new student orientation programs, transition initiatives, parent and family programs, transfer student engagement, and military student assistance programs. Additionally, I co-directed institutional retention efforts  (committee, assessment, and initiatives) at EIU. Before my work at Eastern Illinois.
