Anthony J. Onwuegbuzie is a multiple award-winning author, researcher, methodologist, scholar, educator, thought leader, and mentor. Currently, he is serving as Professor Extraordinarius at the University of South Africa and Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Johannesburg.
His research focuses on social and behavioral science issues, particularly those affecting disadvantaged and underserved populations, including minorities and juvenile delinquents. He is also a leading scholar in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research.
With an h-index of 117 and more than 125,000 citations, Professor Onwuegbuzie has authored more than 600 publications, including more than 450 journal articles, 50 book chapters, and 6 books. He has delivered more than 1,000 presentations, 250 methodological workshops, and 75 keynote addresses globally. He actively collaborates across disciplines in evaluation-focused academic initiatives.
He is the Editor-in-Chief of both the International Journal of Multiple Research Approaches and the Journal of Mixed Methods Studies, and a former editor of Educational Researcher. He is a founding member and past President of the Mixed Methods International Research Association.
Professor Onwuegbuzie has received significant recognition for his contributions. In 2024, he received South Africa’s NRF “A” rating for the second time. According to the AD Scientific Index (2025), he ranks #1 in Education in the UK, #1 in Africa, #6 in Europe, and #8 globally for h-index (last 6 years). Research.com ranks him #2 in South Africa and #98 globally in Social Sciences and Humanities. His honors include multiple Research.com Leader Awards (UK, US, South Africa), the Best Researcher Award (2023), and the 2024 Research Excellence Distinction Award.
